Rocketships
The future of space travel is here! You just have not heard about it yet. Companies like XCOR, Armadillo, SpaceX, and yes Virgin Galactic, are slowly replacing the NASA, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin monopoly.
The future is small, light rocket ships using fiber composite aeroshells and “Earth-friendly” rocket fuels like Peroxide and hybrid solid/liquid engines.
Contests organized by the X PRIZE and NASA’s Centennial Challenges are opening doors for innovative solutions to decades-old problems: how to get to outer space safely and at low cost.
I have an insider’s view of this brave new world. As member of the Delta Clipper Experimental (DC-X) Team in the 1990’s I met many of the pioneers in the early days. Now, as Vice President of the Space Tourism Society, I continue to participate in this historic transformation of space travel.
